By connecting kids to their food and the farmers who grow it, we empower healthy eating and an understanding of local food systems while bringing joy and creativity to agriculture.

We cultivate curiosity, create opportunities for exploration, and facilitate fun activities for children to touch, feel, smell, taste, and directly experience the natural world. Our hands-on approach to learning helps foster respect for all living things - soil, plants, insects, and animal life.

Ages: 1.5 - 3 yrs

  • Spring Session: April 8th - June 21st. No classes on June 19th

    Caregiver Policy: one caregiver per child is required. You are allowed up to two caregivers.

  • Children will begin to understand how their food is grown on the farm by active participation. Our Farm Educators will facilitate your child’s learning by offering opportunities for children to plant seeds, nurture seedlings, observe and touch different parts of the plant and harvest a variety of vegetables. Children will directly experience nature by smelling herbs and flowers, digging in the soil, looking for worms, finding insects, creating natural art projects and feeding the chickens. We utilize handcrafted, intentional materials to support early literacy and numeracy skills. We will provide a loosely structured, nurturing, inviting developmentally appropriate environment for young children and nurture numerous social and emotional learning opportunities.

  • Caregivers and their young ones are welcome to join local musician Job Potter for a fun and nurturing musical half-hour. Everyone is welcome to sing and play along with small percussion instruments. Our goal is to have fun together with music as a community. This class is designed for babies ages 6 months - 1.5 years old with a caregiver- siblings are welcome. Our popular Baby Farmers class at Amber Waves is sponsored by Amber Waves Farm.

Educators: Bring Your Classroom or Camp to the Farm

Join us for a Field Trip!

Bring your classroom or camp program to Amber Waves. Our educators will create a farm tour and activity for your class that encourages hands-on exploration & piques curiosity. Activities may include observation of chickens and goats, seeding, transplanting, flower & plant lessons, natural crafts, and more. Our farm educators can help you customize a visit to fit your class curriculum. Classes are approximately 1 hour and we usually allow time for eating lunch to a snack and exploring onsite before or after your educational experience. Bathrooms are available, and you can buy food and drink from our market and kitchen onsite.

    We'll set up mats in the shade for community gatherings, conversations, and your young one's play. Baby Social is designed for children 6 months to 1.5 years old and their parents or caregivers; siblings are welcome.

Led by our enthusiastic team of educators, this cooking class will include a farm tour where you will harvest fresh ingredients from the field. When you return to our Outdoor Kitchen, you’ll wash and prep your ingredients, prepare a simple recipe and enjoy a tasty meal together! It is a great way for extended family to spend time together and inspire cooking ideas for home meals. Introduce your children to healthy, nutritional, vegetable-focused meals and an understanding of where their food comes from.

  • Let’s explore how a meal is prepared in our outdoor kitchen with the freshest ingredients the farm has to offer. The first portion of the class may include harvesting your vegetables and herbs out in our fields and in the Outdoor Classroom. After harvesting, we will follow a simple recipe, prepping and chopping ingredients and savoring a meal outside on the farm. Introduce your children to healthy, nutritional, vegetable-focused meals and an understanding of where their food comes from.

Exploration Garden

Open to all ages

This is an open house style free play time for kids of all ages, not a class. Exploration Garden encourages kids to experience the farm and the wonders of the natural world. Children will enjoy free play and exploration in our outdoor classroom. Digging, invention and activity stations, watering the plants, feeding the chickens, and toy farm trucks are all available. Children and families can explore nature, dig in the soil, seek out insects, smell flowers and herbs, pretend play, and have tons of fun.

Caregiver Policy: Children must be accompanied by a caregiver.

Important Class Information

Check-in for classes will begin 10 minutes prior to the start of each class.

Please come dressed appropriately for all kinds of weather; boots are recommended for wet grass, mud, and puddles.

Please be aware that all activities are outdoors and classes are subject to weather-related cancellations. Classes will be held rain or shine except for severe or dangerous weather. You will be notified of cancellations via email up to 2 hours before classes start. If you do not receive any communications about delays/cancellations due to weather, please assume that class is still on - please dress appropriately! Classes are non-refundable. If Amber Waves cancels class, we will offer an option to reschedule at no cost.
