Good morning from the farm!
Some of you have told me at CSA pick up that you feel like you miss the farm, now that we’re hosting pickup at the market (sometimes I miss the farm too, I spend a lot of time at the market, myself), so I just wanted to remind you that the fields are open and the farm hasn’t gone anywhere! The herb garden is beautifully labelled and open for picking, and other pick-your-own crops are on the way. This year’s pick your own crops include a particularly beautiful array of flowers, peas, beans, cherry tomatoes, husk cherries, peppers, and of course, the raspberries. Peas will be coming first in the next week or so, followed by flowers and raspberries. Cherry tomatoes and peppers are coming later in July.
On any given pick up day you’ll still find the crew working in the fields and the chickens and ducks roaming around. Please come back there to see us! And we’ll of course let you know when new u-pick crops open, both in this newsletter and in the CSA Member Clubhouse.
This week’s box: (we know there have been a lot of greens; we hope you’ve been enjoying a salad every day! More “solid food” is on the way, but those leafy greens are oh so good for you, they’ll take the back seat in the summer, but come roaring back in the cool fall weather).
Baby Lettuce Mix
Optional: Napa Cabbage
This week’s rotating bread:
Salty Pickled Soured Rye
This week’s fruit share:
Raspberries and rhubarb
This week’s rotating cheese share:
Goat cheese from Catapano Dairy
Kohlrabi Carpaccio with Goat Cheese
Have you been making frittatas or omelets with greens from your box? It’s a great way to get through them!
