Good morning from the farm!
Welcome to the home-stretch of our CSA: the final 6 weeks! To kick-off this finale, we're sending home the seasons first Brussel Sprouts this week :)
Today, we're sending our 2017 field crew up to Barre, Vermont to spend a few days farming with our friends Jon and Karin of Bear Roots Farm. They'll be helping them get through some of their major fall harvesting of storage crops--things like beets, carrots, cabbage, turnips and daikon radishes. Jon and Karin will store these crops in various temperature and humidity regulated coolers and they will supply food to their Winter CSA and farmers market customers well into 2018. Our crew will have the opportunity to get a glimpse of what year-round farming and season extension with high-tunnel greenhouses is like, while also learning about land access and conserved land in a state other than NY.
While they're away, we'll continue removing plastic mulch from the fields and begin seeding cover crops in areas that are ready to be put to bed for the winter.
