Good morning from the farm!
This week we are doing our season assessment with the crew. It is the final topic of discussion as part of the Apprenticeship Program, and we do it in two parts: financial assessment and field assessment. We review our books with a monthly breakdown so that everyone leaves with a clear understanding of how Amber Waves operates throughout the year. This year is unique for us, as the Market has created a new source of income. For the field assessment, we'll review our spring field map and crop succession plan and then talk about how to create a field plan from scratch. This is a critical skill for anyone want to start their own farming operation. Finally, individuals with do a personal assessment, revisiting the goals they laid out for themselves in the spring.
Today, we begin to start saying goodbye to some of our Apprentices, and will lose 3 by the end of the week. As an education farm committed to training the next generation of young farmers- we rely on new farmers to fully execute all components on Amber Waves Farm. We could not function with them and we are so appreciative for all of their hard work and incredibly positive attitudes throughout this milestone of a season! Thank you, ladies!
