Come learn about locally grown wheat + the basics of bread baking in this informative and fun workshop with Amanda Merrow and Katie Baldwin of Amber Waves Farm + Carissa Waechter of Carissa's Breads!
Workshop attendees will start with a tour of Amber Waves Farm's Amagansett field, a discussion of the different varieties of wheat grown, and Carissa's preferred varieties for bread baking. Following the farm tour, we will gather around the farm's wood-fired oven as Carissa discusses and demonstrates how she makes her signature Farm Loaf using Amber Waves's whole wheat flour. Attendees will have the opportunity make their own dough to bake at home, as well as shape their own loaf to be baked during the workshop in the wood-fired oven.
Topics such as how to mix, fold and shape bread dough, the basics of bread fermentation, using a sourdough starter, using herbs in bread baking and how to bake bread in your home oven will all be covered in this workshop. There will be lots of time for questions and we will conclude with a light lunch including farm salad and spreads, assorted Carissa's Breads + cheese.
